Future of Fish Feed (F3) is a collaborative effort between NGOs, researchers, and private partnerships to accelerate the commercialization of innovative, substitute aquaculture feed ingredients to replace wild-caught marine ingredients since their populations are declining.
THE NEXT F3 Challenge
The next F3 Challenge will shift the focus from feed manufacturers and ingredient suppliers to fish farmers, bringing the movement for fish-free feeds closer to the market. This next challenge will recognize and reward farms that successfully produce and sell the most fish fed without marine animal ingredients—no fishmeal, fish oil, or krill.
By placing the emphasis on the farm, this challenge aims to accelerate the availability of more sustainably fish fed – without wildcatch – so that there are a greater number of choices in the marketplace. As fish producers go to market, and advertise the differences, consumer awareness of the role feed ingredients play in sustainable seafood production will increase so that some day, it will be preferred and as well understood, as “insect fed” chicken or “grass fed” beef.
